How to Dress Up Your King Bed?

When you have a king bed it usually becomes the center of focus in your bedroom. As such, you should do as much as you can to dress it up so that it really brings the room together. You should decorate the rest of the bedroom around the king bed.

In a well kept home, your king bed should be completely dressed up when it is not being used for sleep or any other activity. It is a matter of opinion exactly how to dress up your bed, but there are certain common elements that apply for most any king bed.

The first thing to do when preparing your bed is to install a dust ruffle. A dust ruffle is made of various types of material such as cotton, linen and lace and surrounds the bottom half of the bed. It is like a king-sized sheet except that the sides are ruffled and usually have some color and a pattern to them. On a king bed that rests on a boxspring, the dust ruffle is spread evenly over the box spring and the ruffled edges droop down to floor level. The mattress is then placed on top of the box spring, securing the dust ruffle in place. Straighten all sides of the bed so the dust ruffle is even and just touching the floor all the way around the bed. The dust ruffle protects against dust and also adds a nice decorative touch to your king bed.

Next, you should select one or several sets of sheets and pillow cases that complement the color, pattern and design of the dust ruffle. You can choose a nice white down comforter that you can place in a duvet. A duvet slips over the comforter and then can be zipped or buttoned up to keep the comforter protected. It should also coordinate nicely with the dust ruffle, sheets and pillowcase.

Finally, pick out some accent pillows that go well with the colors and design of your bedding. Place them at the head of your bed and arrange them in a line across the top portion of your king bed. Straighten out any wrinkles and your bed will be properly dressed.
