These plastic containers are truly useful. However, if these containers were stained from the foods that were placed in them, they may not look as pleasing. Staining of plastic food containers happen when someone re-heats foods, especially colorful foods. Staining can be prevented if you use a non-cooking spray on the plastic storage container first. Often times, people tend to forget this and cause staining on their plastic storage containers.
• Fill the container with hot water once there is already a stain. To make it more effective, boil the water first, then pour it on the plastic storage container. This may be inconvenient for some, so you just have to ensure that the water is hot and not just plain tap water.
• Use denture cleaning tablets. Drop two denture cleaning tablets in the hot water and allow them to bubble. You will see that it will fizz. These tablets are effective in removing stains on dentures, so it can also remove the stains on your plastic container.
• Let it stay for five minutes. After five minutes, remove the water solution. Check if there are still some stains. If there are stains, use an old toothbrush while using baking soda as your scrubbing agent in removing the stains on the plastic storage container. You don’t have to add water yet, because the storage is still wet from the water solution.
• Wash using a dish detergent. Once the stain was gone, you can wash it using your regular dish detergent for a final cleansing.
If your plastic storage container has an odor that won’t go away, you can try sticking a lemon wedge in it and leaving it for a couple of days until the odor is gone. On the other hand, if the stain still won’t go away, it would be best to throw the plastic container and replace it with a new one.
