A VHS Cassette that won't play might be fixed by fast forwarding the tape to the very end and then rewinding the tape to the beginning. Sometimes the VHS Cassette that won't play might be because of the player. Periodic cleaning with a cleaner tape is necessary to make sure the heads are clean inside the player.

Before you begin to try to repair your broken video tape, you need to wash your hands and dry them. Then you can lay your video tape down on the table. Make sure that the side with transparent windows is face down. Next, you need to unscrew the screws that hold the case together. If you see that there is a rivet at the center of the tape, you should use a drill. Make sure that the drill is set to slow speed. This is to make sure that the heat from the drill does not melt the film or the tape casing.

Once you have removed the screws, hold the case shut with your hands. Turn it over so that the transparent windows are now facing up. After you have done this, you need to pull the top half of the tape upwards. You can cut the sticker on the back of the tape in half. However, you cannot remove the flip up cover that is found on the front face. Place the front face on the table.

Trim the areas of the film that has jagged edges. You will notice that one side of the film is shinier than the other side. Make sure that these sides are aligned together and that they match perfectly. After you have done this, you can cut a piece of tape that is the same length as the film. Use this tape to tape the trimmed pieces of film together. You can then place the film back in the casing.

Thread the film through the pegs inside the casing. Next, you should place your fingers in the reels of tape. Turn the reels in opposite directions. Continue to do so until the tape feels tight. After you make sure that all of the parts are back in place, you can push the up the flip cover and place the front cover back down. The pieces should easily snap together.

Turn the tape back over and gently replace all of the screws. After you have done this, you need to make sure that the video tape works properly. Fast-forward the tape all the way through and then rewind it back.

No. If it is the actual shaft of the barrel that is broken there is no repair, and if you were going to use it on the threads, it will not hold. Even if it were to, it would not match up and break paint in the barrel.

Who do you get to splice together an old video cassette tape that has torn?

Go to a store or search on the internet for "Professional video recording supplies". These stores deal with TV stations that have recording equipment that still use tape systems. They sell a special tape that you can get to splice the tape. You take the ends of the vcr tape and overlap them an inch. Make a diagonal cut across the tape with a very sharp razor or knife. Keeping the tape still together, remove the cut ends. Place the repair tape over the diagonal cut and press in place. Slightly undercut the repair tape edges where the splice occurs so the tape won't be too wide to pass the guides in the tape recorder or player. After this, you need to get a DVD recorder to burn this tape to a DVD for historical archiving and playback. (much better than tape).
