As you may already be aware, a pallet jack is a relatively cheap device that allows you to lift up and move objects that are on a pallet, and it may otherwise be known as a pallet truck. It is considerably safer for a worker to use a pallet jack rather than trying to move the stock with their bare hands. However, there are a few things that need to be kept in mind if you need to drive your pallet jack on a loading ramp or any other kind of ramp. By following these procedures, you can easily transport materials up and down ramps while preventing breakage, injuries and work time that would be lost.

1. You must wear gear for protection before you handle any kinds of material. Whenever you transport materials in a factory, a warehouse, a lab or a store, you should wear steel toe boots and protection for your eyes.
2. Do not try to take on too much weight if you are going to drive a pallet jack across a ramp, so reduce the weight of your load. You should not attempt to carry any more than you could carry using your bare hands. This is a good general rule of thumb to follow.
3. Use heavy tape, banding or bungee cords to secure your load down onto the pallet jack before you start driving off of ramps.
4. Remember that you should pull up a loading ramp but push when you go down. Either way, your handle should likely be extended upwards towards the ramp.
5. Employ a helper so you can have some help transporting your load when you are in an include. Whether you are going downwards or upwards, you should have the helper located behind the pallet jack. Depending on which direction you are going, the helper can exert force by pushing you upwards or help push you downwards, relieving some of the weight of the load.
6. Make sure you position, when possible, the ramps at a pitch that works best for you. Ideally, a pallet jack will want the grade of the ramp to be no greater than six percent. If you have a steeper ramp, you might slip and roll the pallet jack.
