As the cost of gasoline and other automobile fuels continues to rise, fuel efficiency becomes more and more important. Although the purchase of a diesel fueled or hybrid car can immediately generate significant gas savings, a new car may be out of reach for many people. Luckily, drivers can safe significant fuel simply by following a few simple tips, regardless of what they drive. All of the tips are designed to be safe and to prevent a driver from being a nuisance to others.

Maintain the Car

Keeping an engine in correct tune can generate anywhere from a 5 to 20% increase in fuel efficiency. Even easier, maintaining proper inflation in one’s tires can also generate a 5 to 10% increase in efficiency, as well.

Drive the Speed Limit

The faster that a vehicle is driven, the harder that it has to work to push through the air. Although this is true for any vehicle, the less aerodynamic a vehicle’s design, the more that additional wind resistance will affect fuel economy. Simply driving at the speed limit, or a little below, as opposed to 5-10 miles per hour above, can result in significant fuel economy gains in non aerodynamic vehicles like SUVs, trucks, and minivans.

Do Not Accelerate Unnecessarily

The most fuel inefficient thing to do is to accelerate. An engine will burn more gas going from 0 to 50 than it will for an equivalent amount of time going 50 miles per hour. Even small variations of pedal pressure during steady driving can burn a great deal of fuel. Try to plan a route to allow for as much steady speed as possible. In addition, using the car’s cruise control system as much as reasonably and safely possible can also lead to reduced fuel consumption.

Along this vein, coast to stop lights. Whether one rushes to the light and then steps on the brakes or gradually coasts there, in either case one will be stopped until the light turns green. Coasting, though, will use as much of the car’s forward momentum as possible. It also leaves open the possibility that the car will still be moving when the light turns green, reducing the amount of acceleration necessary.

Why doesn't gas gauge work on 1991 ford explorer?

Could be a bad fuse - fuse # 17 is a 15 amp fuse for the fuel gauge Could be a bad float on the fuel gauge sending unit inside the gas tank ( it's with your electric fuel pump ) If the float gets a pinhole or crack in it , the float fills with gas and sinks so the gas guage reads empty all the time Could be a wiring problem

What amp fuse do you use for fuel pump?

The appropriate amp fuse for a fuel pump typically ranges from 10 to 20 amps, depending on the specific vehicle and fuel pump model. To determine the correct fuse rating, consult the vehicle's service manual or the fuel pump manufacturer's specifications. It's essential to use the recommended fuse to prevent damage to the fuel pump or wiring. Always ensure that the fuse matches the pump's electrical requirements for optimal safety and performance.

What the difference between 70 amp and 90 amp alternators for Toyota Echo 2001?

I'm definitely not an expert in this area, but you can choose from different output alternators based on your power needs. For example if you have a big power drain from some custom sound system or gadgets you power from the car (but most common car gadgets like GPS or cell phone charger don't use much power at all), then you would want to go with a higher amp alternator. 70 amps should be plenty for normal use. The lower amp units are generally less expensive. But from what I understand, it should not use any additional gas to use a higher amp alternator UNLESS you are actually drawing the extra power from it.

How do you troubleshoot an in-op gas gauge on a 93 Explorer XLT?

I'm not a mechanic / technician but I would start by checking fuse # 17 , the 15 amp fuse for your fuel gauge . Otherwise it could be the sending unit inside your gas tank ( it's combined with the fuel pump ) , or a poor electrical connection

Can you use a 20 amp breaker if the amp rating on a heater is 21 amp?

No, a breaker needs to be loaded less than 80 percent. As they reach their tripping point they get hot. The circuit rating, breaker and wiring is not designed for 21 amps. The next size would be a 25 to 30 amp breaker that has #10 wire feeding it.

Can you safely use a 15 amp circuit for a microwave rated at 12 amps?
