In order to be a nurse, you need to have a caring disposition and a love for the patients that you work with. Nursing requires at least two years of schooling. If you choose to specialize in one department of nursing, you can go to school longer. There are several locations that you can be a nurse and they all offer something different in the nursing career.

Nurses are special people who come in contact with all types of patients. The patients need someone who will take care of them when they are sick or hurt, and they do not need a person who is only in the job for the money. There will be patients that nurses come in contact with who have been in car accidents and may have lost family members or friends. Nurses take care of people who are in their last days of life and need someone who will hold their hand. Yes, the money is good, but it should not be the only reason you get into the nursing profession.

Anyone who wishes to get into a nursing career will need to plan on being in school for at least two years or more. Most community colleges offer a nursing program, but you have to apply before you can take the nursing classes. Many of the classes that are included in the nursing program are science based. When you graduate from the nursing program at the school you are attending, you will be able to work at several different jobs. Nurses have a wide variety of positions that they can apply for in the workforce. After completing the basic nursing degree program, you can choose to further your education and get a degree in a specific area of a hospital or nursing facility.

Nurses have their pick of places to apply for work. Hospitals are always looking for caring nurses in all departments. If you want to explore different areas of the hospital, you can be a floating nurse. Or if you want to work on one floor, then apply to that department. The more experience you have as a nurse, the better your chances will be at getting the job you want. Nurses also work in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
