This is where knowledge about the soil, climate and environmental conditions of a project becomes important. A landscape architect must determine whether a piece of land will be able to sustain the plantings. Landscape architecture also involves using rocks and Natural Resources to decorate a property. Additionally, the use of fountains, ponds, statues and small structures such as bridges are also often implemented into landscape design.

The career opportunities for landscape architects are mostly available in private construction projects and public beautification projects. For example, cities and towns need to hire landscape architects to plan out a public square or park. For private construction sites, landscape architects may create plans for a planned community. However, the typical home construction project does not require a landscape design because most new residential homes use natural grass and trees that are already standing on the property.
