Maduria is the second largest city of the state of Tamil Nadu and is famous for its lustrous temples. The city dates back to the pre Christian era so the place is just rife with history and culture which makes it one of the most travelled destinations of South India.

The temples are an elaborate piece of art that brighten up the sunny days in Maduria, the most famous of which is the Meenakshi Amman Temple. This beautiful temple has 985 sculptured pillars which form the 1000 pillar Mandapam Hall which is the centre of Tamil art, dance and music. There are also Temples cut out of rock and made from caves to investigate.

As always there is a lot of wildlife in South India which can be observed from the Thekkadi sanctuary and various other places around the city. Madurai is an excellent cultural holiday for the arty type that appreciates excellent architecture and definitive history captured in this modern day city life.
