Pisa is famous for its leaning tower but you will discover there’s much more to be seen in Pisa. The land surrounding the tower and cathedral is absolutely gorgeous. In the Middle Ages Pisa was a great maritime republic and maintains many complete monuments from that era. With interesting museums, a university and the Arno River it’s a wonderful city for roaming around leisurely enjoying the sights.

The city is crowded and hot in the summer months, mostly around the cathedral and tower; you should visit the sites in the morning or at night to avoid the crowds. The best time of the year to visit Pisa, is during the spring and fall months.

Every four years the city plays host to an annual regatta, it is a boat race themed after the ancient maritime republics of Pisa, there is a costumed parade which will dazzle and leave you with an appreciation of this wonderful ancient historic city of Italy.
