Salvador da Bahia, formerly Sao Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos. The English translation for this is Holy Savior of All Saints’ Bay. The largest-city Brazil on the northeast coast, often referred to merely as Bahia, Salvador is the capital of the Northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia.

Salvador, Latin America’s third most populous country, with approximately 2,892,625 inhabitants, is well known for many tourist attractions. In fact it’s Brazil’s second most popular tourist destination.

Capoeira, which translates from Portuguese as chicken coop, is a mixture of Afro-Brazilian dance and unarmed combat Martial Arts moves, and is very popular and often a tourist attraction.

Carnival is the principal tourist attraction. There are three major carnival circuits, one of which courses through a popular tourist district of Salvador, the Pelourinho. The Campo Grande and The Barra are the other two major circuits. Each of these areas are top tourist destinations.

The former writer Jorge Amado, who wrote the internationally acclaimed Dona Flor e Seus Dois Maridos (Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands) in 1966, has a museum in the Pelourinho district which is also a top tourist attraction.
