Sioux Falls is the largest city in South Dakota with a population of just over 158,000. The history of Sioux Falls can be traced to the lure of the cascading Big Sioux River. The famous falls were created approximately 14,000 years at the time of the last ice age. The area has a rich Native American history prior to European settlement that includes Ho-Chunk, Otoe, Ioway, Quapaw, Osage, Kansa, and Cheyenne people.
