San Francisco is a favorite destination for travelers around the globe. The natural terrain lends itself to some of the most unusual architecture in the world. Not only is the engineering a spectacle, but the elaborate ornamentation on the structures, along with the bold colors, give the tourist something to see everywhere they look.
San Francisco boasts a rich cultural history as well, being a key location of the hippie movement of the 60’s. This spirit can still be felt in the Haight Ashbury section of the city with its artisan shops and occasional street musician.
Of course, a trip to San Francisco would not be complete without a ride on their famous Cable Cars! The Cable Cars are great way to travel to two of San Francisco’s other great sights; Fisherman’s Wharf and Lombard Street, claimed to be the world’s “crookedest’ street.
Fisherman’s Wharf offers great shopping for everyone. In addition, Fisherman’s Wharf is also a delight for the palette. The city’s best seafood restaurants can be found at the Wharf, and when you’re done, head over to Ghiradelli Square for their famous chocolates. Other things to see at the Wharf include their resident sea lions lounging on the docks of Pier 39 and a unique collection of antique arcade games and mechanical Musical Instruments at the Musee Mecanique. For the history buff or ghost hunter, there are fantastic tours to Alcatraz Island just a few piers away.
For San Francisco’s more breathtaking sights, be sure to visit Golden Gate Park where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The area includes a perfect spot for photos with the bridge in the background and a humble shop with gifts you won’t find anywhere else. For the outdoors person, there are hiking and biking trails throughout the 1000+ acre park. Another sight that is sure to amaze is Twin Peaks. It is the second highest point in San Francisco, but it is almost at the geographical center, making it the perfect place for a panoramic view of the entire city.
San Francisco offers something for everyone. It’s no wonder people just love San Francisco!
