For such attractive animals, birds can cause a lot of stress and headache for a building owner. Just their droppings alone can lower property value and make a building the community eyesore. Beyond that, these droppings sometimes carry disease and bacteria which can be dangerous to human health. Birds can nest in the stragest places, often clogging up important ventilation lines and causing damage to the infrastructure. A few birds here and there may not make much of a difference, but if a building becomes a de facto aviary, the owner has a real problem on their hands.

Thankfully, there are a lot of options out there when it comes to good bird control. What you decide to purchase is going to depend on a number of factors. These include the particular bird problem, the extent of the problem, and how much money you’re willing to spend to get rid of the birds. There may also be some restrictions on what you can buy as it pertains to local laws and your particular building codes. It is a good idea to figure out which kind of bird control is best suited to your problem before spending any money on a product.

Bird control options range from the very simple to the highly technical. Decoys are a good example of the former. A few lifelike statues of predatory birds will often do the trick if the birds in the area are likely to recognize such a statue. Various forms of netting and diverters are some of the options a little higher up on both the price and technological scale. Some of the high end bird control options include devices that emit special sonic sound that in unpleasant to birds and will naturally discourage them from using your building as a place of residence.

When confronted with the costs of some of the higher end bird control options, many choose to throw up their hands and simply deal with the problem as a necessary evil. This is usually a mistake. Birds can nest in air conditioning units and cause damage far exceeding the cost of a one time bird control option. Make sure you properly weigh the possible long term costs of bird damage before deciding whether or not bird control is worth it.
