Television advertising has proven to be highly substantial for a number of reasons. One of the main ones being that you can't "X" out a television Ad. You can switch you're TV to a new channel, but there still remains the chance that a commercial could be playing on that channel as well. The internet makes it much more accesible to get rid of and ignore ads than TV. While you might channel surf, the likeliness of you turning off the tube to avoid advertisement is extremely rare. Another factor is the volume of ads. Typically on webpages you're presented with an ad or two, usually heading or drawing up the side of the page with the ocassional pop up. With TV, commercials are on literally every few minutes. TV can reach audiences on a more interactive, personal level. They show numerous scenarios of people engaged in every day life and activites, giving the viewer something to relate too. Internet lacks this appeal, and its advertising suffer because of it. These obvious advantages give TV a much higher edge when it comes to advertising. But as technology grows, people can fast forward through commercials with the new DVRS. If the internet somehow comes up with a better marketing campaign, it might just flip around sooner than expected.
