Millions of Americans do not understand their basic rights under the law. While most American citizens have either gone through high school in the United States or taken a class to become a naturalized citizen, these individuals still do not understand the rights that they have!
The Bill of Rights may be the among the most important set of rights allowed to American citizen. Americans were given these rights by the founding fathers who knew that each and every citizen should have a basic right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. However, other rights such as the freedom of expression, freedom to bear arms as well as the right to avoid unreasonable search and seizure are the basis of the country today. Freedom of speech as well as many other rights that are assigned under the Bill of Rights have come under attack. Some individuals attempt to place restrictions on how these rights can be used. However, the Bill of Rights remains among the strongest set of liberties that American citizens have to date.
While the constitutional rights of Americans are very important, many individuals also forget about their rights when they are accused of a crime. For example, a citizen who is arrested and charged with murder is automatically given the right to remain silent, the right to an attorney and the right to a speedy trial. This makes America one of the few countries to afford individuals a large number of rights.
American citizens also have rights to vote. Voting is extremely important in the United States. Individuals who are American citizens and over the age of 18 can vote in an election for President, Congress or state/local elections. These elections allow Americans to choose leaders who will help to decide the path of the county for the next several years.
The Constitution was designed so that American citizens could have as many rights as possible. The founding fathers of the United States wanted to ensure that freedom from tyranny as well as government was available to every citizen. While America may not be perfect, American citizens enjoy many rights that other countries can only dream of!
How does the supreme court's decision in each case affect the rights of american citizen?
