When you begin your schooling to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN,) you will see that there are a lot of courses that can be taken online, without ever having to go into the school campus to sit in on a lecture. While some colleges still require that you come into the class room, the vast majority are beginning to offer basic courses online. Furthermore, there are many online colleges that don't even have campuses, yet offer these basic courses so that you can complete those credits at home but then transfer to the school of nursing in order to start your hands on course work. Of course, check with the school that you intend to do your actual hands on training and internship under to be sure that they will accept transfer credits from whatever online school you intend to choose for your basic courses, but most will accept credits from the well known online colleges.

Any portion of the nursing field will require basic math and science skills, so these are the most common courses you will need to take during that first few semesters of nursing school education. It is convenient to be able to take these courses from home because in many cases, the class lectures are recorded - meaning that you can rewind and play them over even after the course has ended. This way, if there is something you missed or just don't understand, you can go over and over it as many times as necessary until you've "got it." Even if you are sick, rather than missing your class because you don't have the energy nor ability to get in your car and walk to a class room, you can just log in to your computer and listen to the lesson or lecture of the day.

There are numerous advantages to online courses and while it is certain that no nursing degree can be earned without some extent of hands on training, there are plenty of ways to cover the basic LPN course work. Before you know it, you will be wearing your tag with "LPN" beneath your name.
