Dieters on the Atkins Diet may find meal-time challenging at the beginning, as they need to cut out most of their carbohydrates. During the first phase or induction phase, dieters may consume most cuts of beef, seafood and eggs as protein contains very little carbs. They need to supplement this with low-carb vegetables, such as spinach, broccoli or green beans. Atkins dieters are also encouraged to eat three to four ounces of cheese but to avoid fresh cheeses like ricotta until the second stage. During the second stage, dieters can also intro back nuts and other vegetables. Throughout all stages, dieters should avoid sugary beverages and stick to water or sugar-free drinks.
