This can be a problem, however, in smaller areas that only have one cable provider that services their entire area. While people in these areas may have a choice in using a different telephone company or choosing to get satellite TV service instead of cable, the same choices may not be available for wireless internet services. Doing a simple search for wireless internet providers in your area can return some great results, but these results can also become ugly. Larger towns and cities will likely have a choice of at least two or three wireless internet providers. However, smaller towns will potentially only have one provider that services the entire area. When searching for services, it is common for a general list of companies to show up. Upon contacting these companies you will find that they do not provide wireless services for certain zip codes. After ending your search it could end up that you have found that there is only one wireless internet provider for your area, which is usually your local cable company. This is a troublesome topic because without competition this wireless provider will virtually be able to charge whatever they want for their service, and in addition their propensity for providing stellar customer service could suffer as well. For smaller locations around the nation, this is an issue that needs to be corrected. Just like every other product, wireless internet services should involve freedom of choice.

An internet connection from an ISP. And a router. A very popular router is the Linksys WRT54G. It takes all of 5 minutes to set-up and in a few months if your router breaks (not that they do, their usually reliable but hey), so when it goes down and you are back to a wire for a few hours you will feel so crippled you wont believe it.
