If the flight is going directly from LAX to Moscow (SVO), the shortest flight path would be the polar route: north out of LAX (13 degrees N), over Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Saskatchewan, west of Hudson's Bay, cross the west end of Baffin Bay, over the middle of Greenland, the northern latitudes of Norway, Sweden, and Finland, and in to Moscow.

Of course, specific airlines may have their own routes because of requirements to check in at certain points, so this should not be construed as a representation of how any specific flight will go.
