Jet Ski is a personal watercraft branded by Kawasaki. It was released in 1972 and quickly became the commonly used term for most personal watercraft regardless of manufacturer. That being said, the Oxford Dictionary includes the term "Jet Ski" in the 1961 edition defined as an aquatic motorbike and even earlier in 1948 defined as a jet-propelled aircraft with skis. Personal watercrafts were first developed in Europe in the mid-1950's, and were called Water Scooters.
