There could be one of 3 things happening.
-BOO (Brake On/Off Switch) Unplugged/Malfunction causing the shifter interlock solenoid to not disengage.
I once had someone with large feet kick the BOO switch wire off, preventing my vehicle from shifting out of park. If the BOO is faulty it can cause this situation as well.
-Broken wiring or burned fuses
Likelihood of this is possible, but less possible than the BOO being faulty or unplugged.
-Shift interlock solenoid stuck or burned out.
The likelihood of this occurring is least possible as this issue is commonly remedied by replacement or reconnection of the BOO.
On a 1998 Ford Taurus ; On the column shift the overdrive button is on the end of the gear shift lever On the console shift the overdrive button is on the drivers side of the gear selector lever below the button you have to press to shift out of PARK

Your 2010 Ford Taurus may be stuck in park due to a faulty brake light switch, which prevents the gear shift from being released. Additionally, there could be an issue with the shift interlock mechanism, which is designed to keep the vehicle from shifting out of park without pressing the brake pedal. A dead battery or malfunctioning key fob can also contribute to the problem. It's best to check these components or consult a mechanic for a thorough diagnosis.
Estimated Cost for 2004 TAURUS is $380. that is from Hines Park Ford.
1996-1999 Taurus Sable:Fuse #5 is for the "Brake shift interlock".I *think* that's the one.The brake switch down on the brake pedal is also a factor in getting stuck in park. See "Related Questions" below for more about that too.
I can't imagine the two are related. Try turning your steering wheel left and right when taking it out of Park. Sometimes just releasing the pressure on the shift mechanism lock will allow you to get it out of Park. For the brake lights, check the fuses. Good luck.
Make sure your car is on.
Check brake lights--if they do not work shift interlock will not release

Insert the key into the ignition, turn it to the on position, and move the steering wheel left and right while applying pressure to the sfift lever. The system has a way on locking up the steering wheel and keeping the shift lever lock in park.
Align the shift indicator orreplace it. Your problem is strictly column mechanical.
