The Passenger side fan motor which is your secondary fan motor is timed to turn on at high speed at a certain temperature. Once it cools it will go back down to low setting. If your engine does not reach a hot enough temperature it will not go to high speed mode. Meaning you won't hear it turn on or off. It will remain on low until needed. This usually happens at around 245 to 265 degrees.

If Cooling fans work on my 1999 grand am why when it overheats don't they turn on?

The cooling fans turn on utilizing a temperature sensor and a relay. When the engine gets to a certain temperature the temp sensor closes and the cooling fans come on. Check fuses first. If you have a 12 volt test light, hook up the test light to the connector that goes to the cooling fans once the engine is warmed up and see if the light comes on. If it doesn't, the problem is in the power to the fans, check fuse, sensor and relay. If the light comes on and the fans don't, check for a proper ground (usually a green or black wire attached to a lug and bolted to the car chassis.

How do you know if cooling fan relay is bad in a ford windstar?

To determine if the cooling fan relay is bad in a Ford Windstar, you can start by checking if the cooling fans activate when the engine reaches operating temperature. If the fans do not turn on, inspect the relay by swapping it with a similar relay in the fuse box to see if the fans operate. Additionally, you can use a multimeter to test for continuity across the relay terminals when it should be activated. If the relay fails these tests, it may need to be replaced.

How do you fix cooling fans on a 92 geo storm?

To fix the cooling fans on a 1992 Geo Storm, first, check the fuse related to the cooling fan system to ensure it’s not blown. Next, inspect the fan relay and wiring for any signs of damage or corrosion. If the fans still don’t operate, test the fan motors directly by connecting them to a power source; if they don't run, they may need to be replaced. Lastly, ensure the temperature sensor and thermostat are functioning properly, as these components control fan operation.

How do i get the cooling fan to work if it's not the fan motor fuse or cooling relay switch?

Make sure it is not the temperature sensor, somtimes when they fail it wil never turn on the fan. If you can test the fan to make sure it actually works. You can usally test the fan motor to see if it work by turning the ac on, which wil automatically turn the fans on by default.
