Yes it definitely can, it can also cause the car to periodically not start, it will turn over like it wants to start but it just won't. It will also die from time to time. Trust me, after spending a lot of money to fix my vehicle it turned out to be the crank sensor, after that was replaced it runs fine. If you ask me, I would rather go back to the old distributors instead of these electronic ignitions.......a lot less hassle. Good luck.
