no but it can stop the fuel pump from running.
Yes, it can. It measures the engine oil pressure and if it fails, the pressure can come through it losing oil.
Yes it could.
What kind of car? What year? Must be more specific. ANSWER i don't believe ther is a fuse on the sending unit due to the fuel pump getting its power from the oil pressure switch cause the oil pressure sw. has the lowest resistance of all current and the current being supplied to the fuel pump and the sending unit, and the gas gauge receiving the signal from the sending unit thus no fuse.
Worn threads will cause this. Wrap your the threads on your oil pressure sending unit / switch with teflon tape, replace and tighten securely.
Have you change the oil pressure sending unit, that's what I had to do. David
A bad fuel pump can cause stalling. The oil pressure will show low oil on the lights or gauges but if the pressure is ok then the switch should not cause stalling.
bad oil pressure sending unit
Pontiacs are know to have bad oil pressure units in them through the years it is a common problem. as for the fuel guage the contacts that read it are probally dirty but this means droping the tank to gain access to the sending unit and new pumps are as high as 400 bucks for a new one oil pressure sending units are a bit cheaper at around 20 bucks but just a hard location to get to.
Assuming that the engine oil is at a constant pressure, look at the oil sending unit. A bad sending unit or loose wire connected to it can cause an erratic oil reading.
A bad oil sending unit, a bad oil sensor.
GM cars of this era had about 43psi of fuel pressure. As you probably suspect the most common cause of your problem is a bad fuel pump.
My oil pressure gauge is dropping to o and the oil was just changed and is full. What could cause this
