It is possible to drive a Chevy Trailblazer with no power steering. However, it isn't recommended. The steering column could freeze and there could be no way to steer the car.
In short, no. Cars designed to be driven WITH power steering are unsafe to drive when the power steering system has failed. If you've lost steering due to a broken belt, I suppose it might be safer to drive it that way than to park on a busy highway shoulder.
No. The main serpentine belt controls the alternator, air conditioner compressor, and water pump, but the other belt only drives power steering. Since power steering is not critical to driving a small car, it's OK to wait until the belt completely wears out before replacing it unless the car is being driven by someone who would panic if they lost power steering.
Well sounds like you lost your hydroboost. You might have a power steering leak. Check your power steering fluid first. Over on the lower drivers side front of the engine.
Have you checked to make sure the belt is still on the PS pump pulley?
that loud noise is your power steering pump very low on fluid add some
You may have lost power steering on your 1958 Ford due to a few common issues, such as a leak in the power steering fluid system, a malfunctioning power steering pump, or a broken belt. Additionally, worn-out steering components or a blocked fluid line could also be culprits. It's best to check the fluid level and inspect the system for leaks or damage to identify the exact cause.
I had a 1999 Grand AM same thing happened to me. A while after that i was driving and the radio lost power, then the power steering. I had the alternator and battey replaced and that fixed the problem.
Could be a slipping or broken belt.
the bottom high pressure hose on the pump may need the teflon washer replaced
Two things: 1. Your power steering pump is quite - this will affect your steering (of course) but will effect the brakes too 2. You lost your main belt that operates all the aulterator, steering, cooling system and brakes (the serpantine belt) - if the belt is still on and tight - its number one (I had both happen1)
Could be a fuel problem, dirt, water, clogged fuel filter,- electrical problem, plug wires or boots, distributer etc.
It is probably your brake booster located on the firewall.
