I believe there is a ring right below the the shift knob. pull up on that ring and i believe reverse is all the way to the right and down. i believe only newer cavaliers had this feature.

The Chevy Cavalier vehicle can be either an automatic or a stick shift. You can switch an automatic over to a stick shift by switching out the transmission.Ê
As you stand in front of the car looking to the right.Look for a white dip stick.
you have to go from under the car on the drivers side. there is a dip stick/fill hole
If your looking for the automatic transmission dipstick, it doesn't have one.
If auto. Dipstick should be at the rear passenger side of the engine If you can't find the stick it might be because on the 4 speed auto trans models there is none, check your manual. It may be a sealed unit.
If it is a 2.4 liter engine with dohc it does not have a dip stick... it is a sealed transmission.
Stick a small flat head beside vent and push to opposit side and towards you carefully.
98 Chevy cavalierIt might be a stick shift
Auto or stick shift? If its a stick - there is a dip stick, look for the master cylinder, then look down. It's located really far down - rght on the back of the tranny.
