The 2001 Ford Explorer rear parking brake is separate from the rear disc brake that stop the vehicle. The rear rotors have a small drum in the inboard side.
The 2001 Kia emergency brake can be adjusted with the emergency brake adjustment bolt. The adjustment bolt will be on the emergency brake pad.
If the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder is low ( in your engine compartment ) that will also turn on your emergency brake light just as if the emergency brake was applied
The emergency brake is designed poorly and uses a circle asembly with two brake pads on the circle there is some adjustment ,but mostly designed to be replace when changing out the disk pads . It is like a drum brake withend the rear disk brake.
First I would have the rear rotors removed to inspect the emergency brake shoe's and rotor for wear. Sometimes people are known to drive with the emergency brake engaged which will wear the shoe and rotor. If they are still within specs, there is an adjustment on the shoe's

I'm not a mechanic / technician but the power brake booster is between the brake fluid reservoir and the firewall on your 2001 Ford Explorer ( located in the engine compartment on the drivers side )
The parking brake has an adjustment bolt on the brake shoe. The parking brake cable has adjustments on each end of the cable.
