In most cases it is the sending unit in the fuel tank at fault.

Your sensing unit may be broken inside of your gas tank. If it is, you would need to purchase another tank.
MORE THAT LIKELY FLOAT HAS HOLE IN IT AND SANK. FLOATS ARE AVAILIBLE AT YOU LOCAL FORD DEALER SEPARATE FROM PUMP.
More then likely you need to replace the Thermostat.
The problem could be a dirty sensor or the sender is no good.

What are you talking about? My temperature gauge works fine. Though, if it wasn't I would check the temperature sending unit.
where is the temp. sending unit located on a 1999 ford ranger xlt 6cyl 3.0l .Gauge does not work.
There should be a second sensor, located near the exhaust manifold. One snesor controls the fan, the other controls the gauge.
my gas gauge doesnt work and i dont get a warning light when about to run out, mine goes to fuel when its about to run out
The float in the fuel tank may need to be replaced.
