the 1997 thru 2005 sport trac has about the same design.
Tilt the steering column up, locate the 2 Phillips screws under both ends .
May have to use a sturdy 6 " long screwdriver the screws are about 2 " long.
Its not difficult.
If No brake lights
Please be aware.. the brake lights and other wiring connection is located i just above the steering column. I believe the Green or blue connector is probably loose using a needle nose plier simply hold the disconnected or popped out wire in the slot that it slipped out from.
To check if your brake llights work use a small 2 foot wood or place it between the front seat and foot brake , just forward the seat to press the brake as you step outside and see the brake lights plus the third cab light now working.

On the 1973 Dodge Dart 340 Sport, the turn signal flasher is typically located under the dashboard, near the steering column. It is often mounted on or near the fuse box. To access it, you may need to remove some panels or look under the steering column for better visibility.
SEATING AREA, DRIVER SIDE, TO THE UPPER STEERING COLUMN HOUSING AT THE TOP OF THE STEERING COLUMN, BEHIND THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH.
The horn fuse on my 2000 Montero Sport is located in the fuse box under the dash, to the left of the steering column. The fuse box cover shows a horn symbol.
go to auto part store & get a book on it
The switch is located in the steering column. Your signal light/wiper arm is part of it. Remove the lower/upper plastic covers (three Phillips screws from bottom) Two torx screws hold the switch to the column. Un plug wire harnesses and remove.
behind dash drivers side mounted on steering column
This is located in the area just behind the serpentine belt and just to the left of the air cleaner housing.
Remove the two plastic trim pieces around the steering column ( they are held together w/2 Phillips screws, coming up from the bottom ). It is right next to the hazard button!
According to my Haynes repair manual it is under the dash to the right of the steering column.
I had the same problem. Talking to Ford was no help, so I took the bottom cover of the steering column and had a look. It seems to be the turn indicator switch. Without taking anything apart try tilting the steering down, depress the brake and pull back on your turn signal lever. If your brake lights come on it's the same problem I had. Mines working again, all the pushing and prying I did must have done something. I don't think it's a permanent fix as I am the second owner and it appears that the steering column covers have been off before. Hope this helps, Mike. I had same problem- no brake lights, blinkers and hazards when tilt column was lowered- but ok with column in up position. I changed the Combination Turn and Hazard switch in the column ($57.00 from Ford) and it fixed the problem. Easy job- didnt have to remove the steering wheel. Just the torx screws for the column covers and two hold down screws. Bobby
your flasher is a combination unit turn & flasher on top of your diagnostics test unit on the left side of steering column
A tow truck is the easiest way. You could pry out the ignition but yould ruin the steering column in the process.
