To unlock the steering on a John Deere LT 150 lawn tractor, first ensure the ignition is off and the key is removed. Locate the steering column and check for a locking mechanism, often a lever or pin that needs to be disengaged. If the steering is still locked, you may need to gently wiggle the steering wheel while attempting to unlock it. Once disengaged, the steering should operate normally.

Remove the steering wheel by unscrewing the retaining nut and using a steering wheel puller if necessary. Next, detach any wiring connectors and remove the bolts securing the column to the vehicle. Finally, install the new column by reversing the steps, ensuring all connections are secure and the steering wheel is properly aligned.
iii have a lot of play in my steering on a 1983 dodge 150 6cyl. what can be done to solve the problem?
hopefully your not stealing the vehicle. but you will have to remove the steering wheel and then remove the key switch itself, purchase a new key switch and replace. However if its only to move the vehicle, after you remove the key switch you can take a screw driver and turn the mechanism in the column to unlock.

My 2002 F350 has the fuse box located under the dash almost directly below the steering column. There are think 4 thumb screws that hold the cover on if I remember right.

Finally, reassemble the steering column covers and reconnect the battery.
