How do you Replace a starter on a 1988 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme?

disconnect ur battery 1st!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the starter is generally found on the passenger side right near the Tanny(find a picture of it on the web to know what it looks like)

when i changed my starter i had to remove the exhaust pipe that connects the one manifold to the other.

then you removed the 2 wires connecting power and ground to the starter

there should be 2 bolts to be remove one each side (the one farthest from the engine is a little hard to get out so take your time w/ it you don't want to strip the bolts.

the starter is big and heavy so use a jack under it while your unscrewing it

then lower the jack and the starter should come out w/out a hitch

Now put back the new starter the same way you took out the old one

now the tricky part.

when putting back the exhaust pipe in place, make sure you have it lined up properly or ur going to have a exhaust leak from that pipe.

when putting it back keep switching back and forth when retighting the exhaust to make sure your getting it even.

make sure everything is tight by double checking before lowering the car

then start her up, it should work w/out a problem.

I changed my starter twice because i bought used so buy brand new to avoid changing it alot.

you'll need a socket set w/ extension's open/closed ended wrenches, pliers a small jack for starter, and a 2 1/2 ton jack to get under the car
