To access the instrument fuse panel in a 2006 Jeep Commander, first, locate the panel beneath the steering column. The shift lock solenoid is located on top of the steering column. You will need to remove the steering column covers, lower dash trim, and the heater duct. Remove the steering column bolts and lower the steering column to access the shift lock solenoid.

Removal and Installation Remove the instrument cluster finish panel. Remove the lower steering column cover. Remove the lower steering column cover retaining bolts. Position the parking brake release aside and remove the lower steering column cover. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the lower steering column reinforcement. Position the transmission range indicator cable out of the way. Disconnect the cable.Remove the retaining screw and position the cable aside. Remove the instrument cluster screws and position the instrument cluster aside. Disconnect the electrical connecters and remove the instrument cluster. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

To install a steering column in a 1989 Toyota Tercel five-speed, first disconnect the battery and remove the lower dash panels to access the steering column. Unscrew and detach the steering wheel, then unbolt the column from the dashboard and the firewall. Carefully guide the new steering column into place, reattach it to the dashboard and firewall, and reconnect the steering wheel. Finally, replace the lower dash panels and reconnect the battery.
