1st buy the kit that will flush your unit out. then check to make sure that your system has no leaks. then add 134a
it takes 64oz or 4lbs of 134a make sure you add oil to it if u have drained it needs 11oz
Could be you are low of R-134a. You can check the PSI level on the lowside with a gauge and if you are you can add R-134a. Any automotive store and some discount stores will have R-134a and gauges. Also you can check out the videos on the link below with show how to add R-134a to you car, and where to find the lowside port.
Get a lube shop to do it.
You can use up to 21oz of R-134a. But don't forget if you are needing to add R-134a you will also need to replace some of the oil also.
Does not use Freon. Uses R-134. Take it to an A/C expert, where they will find the leak and repair before recharging the system. It is illegal to add refrigerant without fixing the leak.

Right behind the engine, on the passenger side, below and behind the alternator, there is a little green cap maked "L". That's the "low" side of the cooling system. You add it there.
To recharge the AC in your 1999 Chevy Prizm, first ensure the system is not leaking by checking for visible signs of refrigerant loss. Obtain an R-134a refrigerant can with a pressure gauge. Start the engine, turn on the AC to the maximum setting, and connect the can to the low-pressure service port. they did it in 1999 and 2000 than realized it was a dumb mistake.
You need to go to your local auto part store and buy and adapter for an r-12 ac lines to convert them over to 134a they should not be over 15 bucks and easy job then vacuum the ac down and fill it back with 134a
