Unless someone has messed with the distributor, it should not need adjustment- the computer does it. The rough timing can be set with a timing light just like the old cars without computers, then the computer should be able to handle the adjustment as needed based on the demand as the engine runs. If you need to know how to do the basic timing, go buy a maintenance manaual to assist and help get it right. Also a friend who is good with cars is a nice add to have in your back pocket!
