A few things to note. Always bleed starting with the furthest wheel away from the master cylinder. So the Dodge might be started with the right rear wheel, then left rear, then passenger front, then driver front if the master cylinder is in front of the driver side. Also check to be sure the caliper is moving freely. Try compressing the caliper several times, with the brake fluid cap off so as to let the pressure out through the reservoir. Always keep the reservoir full with fluid because if it is empty then air can get back in.
According to the service manual...if you have an ABS system on your car then it has to be turned off before you can effectively bleed the brakes out. I tried in vain for over an hour to bleed the right rear brake with little effect when I found this out. It claims that the ABS systmmust be turned off at the dealer, but if you have a mechanic as a friend with a OBD computer it can be done.
My answer to this: In general, I do rear wheel drive vehicles by doing the wheel farthest from the master cylinder and so on closer. Some front wheel vehicles may need a criss cross pattern for bleeding, but most can be completed with the standard procedure for bleeding brakes. On slightly older Dodges that I have worked on, I had success with the standard back to front, furthest to closest wheel bleeding. Be sure to check all fittings and connections for any leaking. One trouble spot can be the proportion valve, if equipped, which sometimes need to be bled separately. Or the proportion valve could be faulty and not allowing the system to bleed. When bleeding, make sure the master cylinder reservoir is full and the top is on. If there are no leaks and the brake pedal is still spongy, then the master cylinder may be faulty or the proportion valve. Another possible way to bleed this is by gravity. Gravity bleeding is achieved by lifting the front of the vehicle with a floor jack so that the master cylinder is the highest point in the braking system. Then, with the master cylinder top off and full, open the bleeder of the wheel and wait. The fluid will eventually make it there just by gravity pulling it down.
