The headlight switch is part of the turn signal/cruise control/dimmer stalk?
I've replaced one. It's a fairly direct job. You'll have to remove the shroud around the steering column to get at the switch It's only held in with a couple of screws. Once they're removed, the switch will come loose. There are a couple of electrical connectors on the back of the switch. Unplug them carefully to avoid damage. Installing the new switch is roughly the reverse.
There are a few things to consider. The shroud, at least the one on my car, comes off with two Torx screws. They are set into the shroud deeply. You'll need a long Torx wrench. If you're buying one (or a set) I highly recommend getting the ones with a T handle. The L shaped ones are a big pain to use.
Also, before you actually remove the old switch, take a look at how/where the electrical connectors "live". If you get them back in wrong, the switch won't seat right and you'll have a rattle in the column after you get it all back together. I speak from painful experience!
I suggest picking up a Haynes or Chilton manual for your car. Their directions for this job are very good.
My 1998 Sunfire has three Torx screws holding the shroud, and they are recessed into the bottom of the shroud. I used a screwdriver style Torx driver to remove them. I think the size is T25.
The difficulty I had was removing the bottom shroud piece from the steering wheel tilt lever. I never did get it off, so I just wrestled with it in place.
There are two screws holding the switch in place; one on top of the steering column, and one on the lower front of the switch behind the steering wheel. I used a 7mm box wrench to remove that one.
As FriPilot wrote, make note of how the two cable connectors are positioned. The connectors snap into the switch body and can be removed with not too much difficulty by pressing the locking tab with a flat blade screwdriver while gently forcing it out of the switch body.
Before you do anything, disconnect the battery. Before you reconnect the battery, make sure the headlight switch and the hazard switch are in the "off" position, and the turn signal stalk is in the normal position.

To change the reverse lights on a Pontiac Sunfire you need to locate it on the left side of the transaxle. Then, unplug the electric connector and remove the switch along with the socket.
How is the ignition key switch replaced on the 2000 Pontiac Sunfire? And after replacing the switch would I have to have it Towed to the Pontiac Dealer in order to have the car key programed to the Computer?
Is your headlight switch and blinker switch the same? If so, this is called the combination switch. Sounds like it is bad and needs to be replaced. Not uncommon for these to break.
under the dash
The neutral safety switch is found under the clutch pedal on a Pontiac Sunfire. Crawl under the cars steering column to see and reach the unit.
Low beam bulb burnt out? Replace bulb. Bulbs OK? If the dimmer switch is also the turn signal/cruise/headlight on and off switch, you probably have to replace the entire switch.
is there a emergency switch that shuts the fuel pump down
On the column accross from the key lock cylinder
Car has manual transmission.
What, exactly, is the problem?
The trunk light switch on a Pontiac Sun Fire is typically in the latch assembly. This is usually inside the trunk and under the carpet.
I have a 1998 Pontiac sunfire gt and it is on the side of the gear shifter (automatic) however, if it is standard then I am unsure.
