Shadetree mechanics and most small neighborhood garages just take of the pan on the bottom of the transmission. Then take out the old filter and put on a new one and put the cover back in place. Now put about 6 - 7 quarts of the recommended fluid back in the tranny and call it good. Unfortunate that does not change the 10+ quarts that are still in the torque converter. As soon as you start the van you'll contaminate the new fluid with the old. Take it to a good tranny shop or your dealer and have the trans flushed and the filer changed. Do this EVERY 35,000 miles. You will elminate alot of problems down the road.
