I just did it! It is not a very difficult procedure, I think that someone with moderate mechanical skills can do it. It took me about an hour and a half, if I had to do it again, I could probably do it in under an hour.
Tools needed: A wrench to remove battery cable and 2 nut drivers, wish I could tell you what size but the ones I used were in an old Excelite set and the sizes don't correspond to either SAE or metric sizes but they are small, 1/4" and less.
I read on another site where someone said that you should get the replacement switch from a Ford dealer and not NAPA because he had tried 2 different NAPA switches an neither of them worked. I did not find this to be the case, I bought my switch from NAPA, it works just fine and with my AAA discount, I saved about $40.
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove kick plate under steering column (2 screws)
3. Remove lower cowling from steering column (1 screw), release steering column adjusting lever to remove.
3. Remove upper cowling from steering column (2 screws) My turn signal lever had broken off so it was easy to remove the cowling at this point, however, if the lever is still intact, it may be necessary to separate the 2 pieces of the upper cowling to be able to slip the cowling over the lever.
4. Remove the screw holding the turn signal switch in place.
5. Remove the 3 electrical connection plugs (2 on the switch, 1 under the steering column.
6. Lift the old switch up and out.
7. Slide the new switch into place, (there are 2 grooves that it has to fit into) replace the screw and electrical connectors.
8. Temporarily reconnect the battery cable and test the functions of the switch.
9. Disconnect battery cable.
10. Re-install cowling, if you didn't separate the 2 sections of the upper cowling piece before, do it now.
11. Install the top piece over the switch first, then the bottom piece then the the remaining top piece. This is a lot like doing a jigsaw puzzle and can be a little frustrating but stay calm and keep trying and eventually everything will fall back into place.
12. Replace the kick plate.
13. Reconnect the battery cable and you're done.
Disconnect the battery. Remove the plastic trim around the steering column. Remove the screws that hold the turn signal switch to the column. Disconnect the switch from the wiring and remove it.
No idea! If anyone knows how to do this please tell!
the internals of the transmisision is the same should be be able to switch out, but may have to change bell housing on the tranys
how do i find the neutral, or clutch switch on a 2003 ford F150?
It's inside the steering column , the turn signal lever and hazard light button are part of the multi-function switch and stick outside of the steering column
is a switch to change to low beam is located under the emergency brake
92 f150 fuel shut off switch located
A 1986 Ford F150 starter won't stuff off when the key is turned off if the ignition switch is jammed. This will cause the start signal to be sent to the starter continuously.
As far as I know , Fords multi function switch is INSIDE the steering column cover . The turn signal lever and maybe the hazard flasher button stick outside of the cover
after electrcally disconnecting the switch there should be a small button on the bottom of the switch body that will release the switch shaft. then just pull it out and do the inverse to put the new one in.
In the front passenger footwell , behind the kick panel access cover , just to the left of the fuse box ( for a 2007 Ford F-150 )
There are images available online to help you see where the Fuel reset switch on a 1986 Ford F150 is.
