Remove and bring to an auto parts store that is equipped to check
The easiest of all ways to check if your alternator is working is. Turn your car on and disconnect the negative battery cable. If your car dies your alternator is no good. But if it stays on. the alternator is generating power. its basically your cars power plant.
Is the battery dead? Check for 12v on the main alternator cable. If no power, check for burned out fusible links between alternator and battery. You may need a wiring diagram to check further.
Check that the alternator and the power steering don't work of the same belt.
the alternator belt could be slipping so check the belt, the wiring at the alternator could be faulty do a check with a multimeter. open the alternator and check the diodes .apply battery power and see if the rotor still spins inside the stator see current output
Check for a bad fusable link at alternator
check your alternator
i have checked the alternator and it is good but i am not getting juice how do i check to see if the alternater is sending power to the SBEC?
Check the fuse box on the vehicle to see if the fuse is blown
If the light comes on and its an auto tranny you need may need a new alternator. i had the same problem. the alternator was drawing power from my battery and o i didnt have enough power for my auto tranny
For starts CHECK FOR bad connections on the battery or alternator, check the ground connection also, check for master fuse link if any, bad alternator that drained the battery to it's last drop of power. check for shortage in any wires, check for fuses, relay. GOOD LUCK:-)
No, an alternator is not part of the power train. It is an auxiliary to provide electricity.
