Rear Door Child Safety Locks
(Sedan and Wagon models only) Child safetly locks are located on the rear edge of each rear door. To activate the locks, you must insert your car key into the opening and turn to the locked "vertical" position. To disengage the child safety lock, insert your car key and turn to the center position.

To engage the child locks on a 2001 Ford Focus, open the rear doors and locate the small lock mechanism on the edge of the door. Use a flathead screwdriver or your finger to slide the lock to the "lock" position, which is typically marked with a small icon indicating a locked door. Repeat this process on the other rear door. Once activated, the child locks will prevent the rear doors from being opened from the inside.
when you open the back door if you look where latch is you should be able to see a rectangle shape hole if you put your key in this and turn it you can activate/de activate the child locks
