easiest way is with a compression tester.. most parts stores will rent one to you
It does not matter. If one is blown on a V6 or V8 then you need to replace them both.
Blown head gasket is one cause.
Blown head gasket or cracked head. The gasket is blown next to the cylinder. Repair immediately. Do not drive, as severe engine damage will occur. If it is a V6 or V8, replace both head gaskets.
blown head gasket. the easiest way to tell is to open the radiator cap while the cars running BUT BE CAREFUL! if theres antifreeze in there it will spray and burn you! but if you have a blown head gasket when you open the throttle the same white smoke will blow out of the radiator cap. white smoke is a sign of a blown head gasket though.
it is a blown head gasket,it would take less to fix rather then buying another car,if you like the car. I would also have the heads checked for cracks.
One million dollars. Dr. Evil
A blown head gasket on a 94 Ford Crown Vic is fixed by removing the cylinder head, cleaning the gasket surface, and installing a new gasket. The head gasket is extremely important as it prevents oil and water from mixing and contains the vehicle's combustion.
coolant usage is not a dripI had this problem on my Chevy 350 v8. In my case it was a blown head gasket in its early stage of breakdown. It became white smoke billowing out of the left of the engine My set up is dual exhaust. took about two weeks until I had to tear down and replace gaskets. If you wait too long it will warp the head-mine did. I have dual exhaust. If your dip stick has white goo on the end of it you have water in the oil...dead give away to a blown head gasket
I take it you mean the head gasket. Head gaskets are pretty cheap, but the labor is high. If it is a V 6 or V8 you may have to do only one side. A lot would depend on what engine you have. I don't know if it is a car, boat or what, so it is hard to say what all is involved. You do have to remove the head from the engine to install a head gasket.
one head,one head gasket,two heads 2 gaskets.v6 has 2.. inline6 has 1.. v8 has 2.. inline 4 has 1.
depends on your particular setup. a rear whell drive v8 takes 16.5 hrs x the shop rate. An all wheel drive v6 is 24.6 hours labor. It could cost 2k to reapr the engine if that is the problem.
if it's really vile smelling, bitter, burns your eyes, it's probably a blown head gasket.
