High idle condition is often the intake gasket on this engine. The 'book' on this is about $400 labor.. Probably could do it at home, but it's a lot easier to get to if you tilt the motor forward. We paid to have it done :( High idle condition is often the intake gasket on this engine. The 'book' on this is about $400 labor.. My '01 Focus just blew its head gasket. The mechanic quoted me at $1200. At ford Dealer ship? Yea have fun spending that kind of money. The gasket itself you can pick up for 30$ max. Find someone who knows even a little about a car, and they will prolly do it for 50$ and a six pack of beer. My friends have replaced a head gasket on a civic and its really easy if u know what your doing.
You are talking about an engine overhaul. It could run thousands, parts and labor, depends on the year, make and engine.
People advertise on Craigs that will do it for a few hundred- many do head gaskets only. about half what a dealer would chaarge. A gasket is only 35.00 but it is a lot of labor, it could easily take a full day or even a weekend. If head needs milled because it is warped will be a couple hundred more.
Oil pumps can cost from $80 to $200. It all depends on which vehicle you have.
about $600. Std. labor estimate is 5.47 hours to lift engine, replace gasket, replace engine and realign steering.
It may be a valve cover gasket, which is far less labor intensive to replace.
The labor charge to replace and intake manifold gasket, on a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, is approximately $180. It takes approximately 2 1/2 hours to replace the gasket.
If all that is wrong is a blown head gasket and even a cracked head it is much easier and cheaper to just fix it than to replace the engine. The labor to replace the engine plus the cost of the engine would be far greater than fixing the one you now have. This is assuming the engine is not worn out already.
all that is needed to replace an oil pan is to remove the bolts holding it on (5-10 min) scrape the old gasket from engine block (10-15 min) and but new pan and gasket back on (5-10 min)
There is only one way to replace a head gasket and it is never cheap. This is a major repair and 90% of the cost is labor.
Well i just replaced a head gasket on an old d4 today and it took about 4 hours if that helps depends on how much your mechanic charges an hour...

They only Head Gasket I had to replace was on a Chevy Malibu 1999. Cost me about $1400
How much does it cost parts and labor to replace a valve cover gasket on a 1990 Honda Accord 4door.
To replace the oil pan gasket on a 1989 Toyota Camry LE, first, drain the engine oil and remove the oil pan by unbolting it from the engine block. Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly before applying a new gasket or gasket maker, then reattach the oil pan and refill with oil. The process typically takes about 4-6 hours, and labor costs can range from $100 to $300, depending on the shop's hourly rate. Parts might cost between $20 to $50 for the gasket.
