go to the auto store and buy some prestone flush. instructions are on the back. basically you drain your radiator, pour in the flush, refill the system with water, run the engine with the heater on high for about 15 minutes, then drain the system again, refill it with 50/50 coolant.

What I do is flush the system; 'cause if your rad has corrosion, so does the rest of the cooling system. Purchase a PRESTONE flush kit at a auto store along with a container of flush and at least a gallon of antifreeze. There are detailed directions on the package. Briefly, you will be installing a flush tee in the return hose to the heater core, adding a can of flush to the rad,running the car at idle and then attaching your garden hose to do the work. Very effective.
