answer: i just did it today 4/10/08 you have to remove about 10 screws you need a torque wrench set and a 7mm. socket . remove or just loosen up the 2 or 3 bottom panels underneath the steering column the signal relay and hazard relay are right next to each other next to the cigarette lighter housing but behind the panels that you have to remove . i pulled it out with a needle nose plyers. not bad it took me 30 min. or less the relay was $10 at the dealer . i hope this helped you...

You can replace it with any 12volt flasher you want, provided that its rated load is the same as the wattage of the signal bulbs you are using.

The 1997 Toyota Corolla turn signal flasher relay switch can be found beneath the drivers side dashboard. The turn signal flasher relay switch will be above the accelerator pedal.
You will need to locate the turn signal flasher and replace it.
If the turn signal bulbs light but will not flash, the flasher relay is defective, replace it.
AFAIK the flasher is built into the multi-function switch.
The turn signal flasher relay switch is located beneath the drivers side dashboard. The turn signal flasher relay switch will be to the left of the brake pedal.
The turn signal flasher is located under the left hand of the instrument panel, right of the steering column.
