Not knowing what engine we are referring to, I am assuming 4.2L I-6.
Passenger side near front of engine. Will have 2 (normally 1 steel, 1 nylon) lines attached to it. It is mounted to the engine block with 2 bolts.
Disconnect negative battery terminal when engine is cold. Disconnect the two lines from it. One is steel and uses a flare fitting (output to carburetor), unscrew the fitting (some fuel may drain from line). Remove the other line (usually a nylon hose & hose clamp), this is the input line from the tank. Remove the to bolts on the pump's mounting flange and remove the pump. New pump is installed in the reverse of the removal procedures. Use a new gasket with the new pump. I normally use silicone form-a-gasket #2 on both the engine block and pump prior top assembly to assist in ensuring no oil leaks. Is also recommending to replace the fuel filter, and the input line if it is nylon, and with new hose clamps.
If you are replacing because the mechanical pump failed, insure that you do not have gasoline in your engine oil (you can normally tell by smelling the dipstick if it smells at all like gasoline, then you do). a large amount of gasoline in the oil will make the oil feel tacky, not slippery as well. Any gasoline in your oil, time for a complete oil change and filter before running this engine! Mechanical pumps commonly fail by getting a hole in the pump diaphragm, thus allowing gasoline to leak into the engine crankcase.
1987
It is inside the fuel tank.
Depends on the engine. If its the 4.2L the its a mechanical pump. It can be found on the passenger side of the engine block near the front. Best way to find it is to follow the fuel line from the carb to the pump.
No, they had an electrical fuel pump located in the tank.
you will need to drop the fuel tank and remove and install from the top of the fuel tank
The pump is on the right side of the engine near the front. This is a mechanical pump.
You already have the biggest tank that is stock on a wrangler, but genright has extended fuel tanks that come complete with new skid pans for easy install.
NO... mechanical speedo vs. electrical. fuel sending unit differs and different harness for under dash
On a 1987 Jeep Wrangler, the fuel filter is located on the driver's side of the valve cover. It is a small silver cylinder with one line going into it and two lines coming out of it.
The fuel pump on a Jeep Wrangler is inside the fuel tank.
88 Sahara should have the 258 I-6 motor. The fuel pump is mechanical & on the passenger side of the motor. Good luck....
The fuel pump on a 2012 Jeep Wrangler is inside the fuel tank.
