get readyThe Ignition switch on a 1989 Chevy Is not that difficult to change out but getting to it will be. I will explain but this job requires Skill and PATIENCE. First remove the horn button on steering wheel next remove the steering wheel Using a steering wheel Puller Then Pull the Turn signal/wiper control/cruise control out of its holder most of the time press in then pull out. After this all is removed now its time for more specialty tools A LOCK SPRING COMPRESSOR TOOL.( Yes You need this ). Next Take Two picks and CAREFULLY remove the ring place the ring on the compressor tool so you don't lose it. Now you need to remove to Torx Bit screews holding down the turn signal canselers. Be careful and gently pull the wires out so that you can access the Ignition lock mecanisism. Now then Some note should be consider to this u may have to remove the horn buzzer and other items make sure you take note of how wires screws and metal clips came out other wize your probubly going to reqret it later there is usually one screw holding down or holding the cylinder in place remove the bold place key in the lock and remove. Now then if you have tilt steering and you Have A 8mm Inverted torx bit with a swivel extension on it Tighten down the two studs on the bottom so that the steering wheel when you turn it doesnt go all over the place. Now then you Can do all this or I would sugest Takeing it to a shop or maby a lock smith
