To install a backup switch on a 1966 GTO, first, locate the backup light switch, typically found on the transmission. Run two wires from the switch to the dash area, ensuring they are securely routed through the firewall and along the existing wire harness. Use a grommet to protect the wires where they pass through the firewall, and connect them to the backup switch. Finally, ensure all connections are secure and test the lights for proper functionality.
Look under the dash on the 1996 suburban, and locate the brake light switch on the brake pedal arm. Remove the switch nut, and slide the switch out. Unplug the wires from the switch and install the new switch.
I have 5 wires and a 4 wire ngniton witch wires go were on a 1961 cadillac in dash ingnition. Switch
As you look at the switch there should be a ring with three notches or groves, this is the nut that holds the switch in. If you are careful, you can use a regular screwdriver in one of the groves and tap it with a hammer to break the nut loose. You should then be able to remove the nut by hand and push the switch through the dash. Reach under the dash and pull the switch down so you can see the wires on the back. I am not 100% sure if it is a single plug or if there are several wires (although I believe it will be several separate wires). If you are putting in a new switch, make sure you have the new, and correct switch for the next step, remove the wires one at a time and reinstall them on the new switch. Once you are done with this, just put the switch back in and you're done. Hayden
pull the dash
To replace the heater switch in the dash of a 2000 Metro, first disconnect the car battery to ensure safety. Remove the dash panel covering the switch by unscrewing any screws and gently prying it off. Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the old heater switch and remove it from the dashboard. Install the new switch by connecting the wiring harness and reassembling the dash panel, then reconnect the battery.
It happened to my Buick after I put in Stereo. The insulation was off one of the stereo wires causing a short which killed my dash lights. The stereo worked. My dash lights didn't.Check your radio wires and make sure its not grounding out.
Remove the center portion of the knob. Remove nut. Remove knob. Unscrew retaining nut and push shaft through to back side of dash board. Switch now dangles from wires. Remove battery ground strap before removing any wires from switch. Draw a diagram of the back of the switch and clearly label it with the colors of the wires and their locations, also before removing any wires. Replacement is the reverse of this sequence.
Reach under the dash at the switch. There is a small button on the side of the switch, push it in and remove the light switch knob. The switch is fastened to the dash by the round nut with a slot on each side of it.

You have to reach up behind the dash and feel for a spring loaded button on the switch. If you have a new switch to install, notice the small button on the new switch. This will help you locate the button on the old one because you can not see it when the switch is installed. While you push in on the button you can pull the knob and shaft out of the switch from the front. Now you can unscrew the bezel/nut from the front and slide the switch out from under the dash to give you room to unplug the wire harness from the switch. If you have a new switch to install, the knob and shaft simply snaps back into place.
