Ok...you ready for this? The interior plastic panel that covers the hatch motor and tail light access needs to come off, (two Philips screws on top, four plastic flatheads on either side). Look down into the motor where the actual hatch would if you were to close the trunk. There is a black release that when pushed down (use a screwdriver to push it down), the motor will move down. When you release it, the motor will come back up. Leave the panel off, shut the trunk so the hatch is latched, climb in the car and push that black release down until shut..if you let it close too far down it will pop up again so play with it a little. I know it sounds ghetto and it is but it's better then not being able to get your hatch closed at all..trust me. Good Luck!
The rear hatch can be replaced by another hatch from an 82 to 92 firebird or camaro.
well you can change the entire rear hatch with that of a trans am's but I dont think it would be worth the the money to convert the car into a trans am style car.
no there is a different key 4 that and the key is also used for the doors as well
To manually open the rear hatch of a 2002 beetle can be hard depending on weather the hatch is closed or open. If needing to manually open a hatch you will have to take the plastic cover from the inside of the hatch then push the latch open.
raise the hatch pull down on the carpet, determine which light is out and twist to come out, you dont replace from the outside of the car!!!
deck panel adjust rear glass
inside of hatch on back wall separate carpet back a lil then theres black wing nuts on the tail lights remove them all and replace install is opp of teardown
The support pistons need to be replaced.

No, only the nob on the outside.
The key lock and the electric motor are two separate items they are conected by a lever. It sounds like the lever is binding sounds like a bad key tumbler
