If you're lucky the cable may have broken on the passenger compartment side of the firewall - perhaps where it attaches to the pull handle. If so, and you can locate the dangling end, grab it firmly with a pair of pliers or visegrips and pull it. If it is broken in the engine compartment you will probably need to go to a shop for their assistance, there really is no owner-friendly fix for popping the hood.

Have you tried opening the trunk and removing the trunk liner on the driver's side? This may give you access to the opener. You can at least have access to the cable. You could also take the latch assembly on the floor, driver's side apart, and see if you can access the cable and pull it with a pair of pliers.
If it is the same as mine look for a door latch assembly, that's is what is wrong on mine but I don't know whether yours is broken or not.
