If you are refering to the old in line 6 cyl 228 used back in the 1940's and 50's it is simple. use a harmonic ballancer puller. There is no bolt that attaches it to the crank it is simply press fit on. I just removed mine last week...
Counterclockwise off. Clockwise on.
front of engine, behind the harmonic balancer
The CPS is located on the front of the engine attached to the harmonic balancer on the front of the crankshaft.
It is bolted to the bottom left side of the timing cover / behind the harmonic balancer.
On a 1999 GMC Savana van with a 5.7L engine, the TDC (Top Dead Center) marker is typically located on the harmonic balancer or the timing chain cover. You can often find a notch or a mark on the harmonic balancer that aligns with a corresponding mark on the timing cover at TDC for cylinder number one. To confirm TDC, you can remove the spark plug from cylinder one and use a tool to feel for the piston at its highest point.
Laying under the front of the engine, It will be in the left bottom side of the timing cover behind the harmonic balancer.
To change the front seal on a GMC Sierra 1500 with a 5.7L Vortec engine, first, disconnect the battery and remove the serpentine belt. Then, remove the harmonic balancer using a puller, followed by the timing cover. Carefully pry out the old front seal and install the new one, ensuring it's seated properly. Reassemble by reversing the disassembly steps, making sure to torque all bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
To replace the crankshaft pulley on a 1998 GMC Sonoma with a 4.3L engine, first, disconnect the negative battery cable and remove any necessary components like the serpentine belt and harmonic balancer if required. Use a puller tool to remove the old crankshaft pulley, then clean the crankshaft snout before installing the new pulley. Align it properly and torque it to the manufacturer’s specifications. Finally, reassemble any components removed and reconnect the battery.
The crankshaft sensor is by the crankshaft pullie (the balancer)
To replace the optical sensor on a 1997 GMC 3500 with a 6.5L engine, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Locate the optical sensor, which is typically found near the front of the engine, behind the harmonic balancer. Remove any necessary components obstructing access, then unscrew and disconnect the old sensor. Install the new sensor by reversing the removal process, ensuring proper alignment and secure connections before reconnecting the battery.

Well, darling, the crankshaft sensor on a 1999 GMC Jimmy is located behind the harmonic balancer at the front of the engine. You'll have to do a little shimmying and shaking to get to it, but it's not rocket science. Just make sure to disconnect the battery before you start poking around under the hood, unless you're looking to give yourself a little shock therapy.
